Our Fundamentals Class is designed to build confidence and a solid foundation for new shooters. We will cover firearm safety, types of firearms and how to safely use a firearm at the range. This course is ideal for the new shooter looking to try shooting for the first time.

Our knowledgeable instructors deliver professional training to assure each student becomes proficient in the proper use of a handgun. Learn from Certified Texas DPS Instructors

A 30 minute Basic Instruction Class designed to provide a basic know how on using a gun, strictly for anyone who is renting a gun at our range, with no past experience with using a gun. We will cover firearm safety, types of firearms and how to safely use a firearm at the range. This course is ideal for the new shooter looking to try shooting for the first time.

Frequently Asked Questions about Best Shot Range

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) requires the classroom portion to be between 4 and 6 hours. At Best Shot Range, we optimize our schedule to ensure you get all the information and your shooting proficiency completed efficiently in one session.

Yes, you can take the classroom portion online. However, you must still complete the LTC shooting proficiency test in person with a certified instructor. We offer dedicated “Proficiency Only” slots for those who have already completed their online modules.

You will need a handgun (.22 caliber or higher), one box of 50 rounds of ammunition, eye/ear protection, and a valid Texas Driver’s License or ID. If you don’t own a firearm yet, we have rentals available at the range.

The test consists of firing 50 rounds total at a B-27 silhouette target. You will shoot from three distances: 3 yards (20 rounds), 7 yards (20 rounds), and 15 yards (10 rounds). A passing score is 175 out of 250 points.

While we cannot legally guarantee a state certification, our instructors are experts at coaching. If you are a beginner and concerned about the shooting portion, we highly recommend taking our Handgun Fundamentals class before your LTC date.
